Professional and amateur restorers bring us car bodies and parts for paint stripping or cleaning. Some interesting items have passed through our works. E- and D-Type and XKSS Jaguars, Ferraris, Maseratis and Lambourghinis are some of the more exotic cars (or parts) we've help restore but we also cater to more modest vehicles, MGB, Morris, Rover, Triumph and many, many more vehicles of all ages and types from Formula 1 to tractor engines.

Plastic media dry paint stripping

A rare GT40 shell stripped of paint

One of our processes involves blasting with a special plastic granule that was developed for use on military aircraft. This material will remove paint, glue, and light rust deposits and many underseals but will not generally remove body seam sealers without concerted effort and not at all in the case of the very latest products.

The advantages of using this plastic media over other materials are numerous.

The material has a low mass, thus allowing low air pressure to be used in the blasting process. This minimises the kinetic energy involved and consequently the amount of heat generated, which is the primary cause of damage or distortion to the material being stripped.

This is especially important when working on light metals and alloys such as aluminum or on composites such as glass fibre or carbon laminates. (Our skilled operators can remove the paint leaving the gel coat if it is sound.)

The process does not remove or alter any surface markings from harder metals such as steel allowing all the original preparation marks to be seen that were left before it was painted.  Porche Cars Gt Britain Limited recommend this process

After removing all the paint we can scour any corroded areas with a harder and sharper abrasive (but at a low pressure) to remove rust from the surface leaving a 'technically clean' finish. Optionally we can then apply a clear zinc phosphate coating which is an anti corrosion treatment that protects the surface from atmospheric moisture providing it is kept in a reasonably dry workshop. Our phosphate coating is clear and can be welded through or painted over without any problem an permits close examination of the metal, unlike other primer's which are opaque and obscure the surface. It is also a chemical etch. This product is imported by us from the USA.

Many car and motorcycle components can be effectively cleaned using dry glass bead or wet vapour blasting process to produce either a polished satin or a clean 'as manufactured' finish. The latter is especially useful when restoring older items that need to retain their original attributes.
